3/2/2019 aice media

Well our group meeting went very well. My group gave me good advice for my project. Me and Sophie should think about a good plot to make sure that the cheesy jokes fit into the theme.

If we make the film about a serious topic then our audience might think that the jokes are out of line. But on the other hand if we make it to cheesy it could be seen as one big joke so Sophie and I have a hard task ahead of us, nothing we cannot handle though.

Another advice that I really like was looking up film openings within my genre of course.

To my suprise I ended up finding something much better. This video shows the most iconic film shots. This gave me a lot of inspiration for our film opening. Many of the films manipulate the lighting and angle there camera a certain way to establish the scenery but still keep the audience curious about what exactly is going on.

The last advice that I really liked was the type of camera shots I should be doing. Obviously it depends on how we want it to look. But since it is a romantic comedy over the shoulder and two person shots are gonna capture the romantic aspect of the film.

Camera movement is also very important for romantic comedy. The shots should have both characters in the frame. Whether it be over the shoulder or long shot . The distance between the characters is what can help put emphasize on what is going on in there relationship.

This slide show shows common shots for romantic comedies and why they are common. The two person shot is the most popular of them all due to the fact that it is a shot which both character are in the frame symmetrically in most circumstances.

It been a while. My partner and I have finally decided on teen comedy as our genre. Teen comedy is a genre known as a hybrid. This genre holds sci-fi, comedy, romance, drama, and horror. We felt that we can make the best of this genre because it is something we relate with.  An example of such a movie is High School Musical. This movie illustrates a classic love story in high school in a dramatic or theatrical manner. The characters are of different ethnicity's' so that the target audience can relate. The plot develops a relationship in High School through different problems. The main problem is the different hobbies between characters such as sports and science which is resolved in drama class.

The following link is a list of things that bother Mrs. McConnaughey. But this list also shows different examples of how it does not follow the reality of real High School. An example of this is detention during drama class.
The photo shows one of the main actors sleeping

Media blog 2/17/19

A. My project is going to depend on many aspects. When it comes to the video it self horror movies are built upon lighting, jump scares, and many other things. The camera movement and placement is very important as well to make sure what the best angle to film in is. Publicity for our project would be on social media and TV networks. Hulu has many commercial breaks as well as TV channels that put movies on it the entire day. Social media is also a very good outlet to reach out to our target audience.

B. The information I discovered through research is content. The following website gives examples of how lighting can be used in horror films:
https://nofilmschool.com/2016/10/8-spooky-lighting-techniques-you-can-use-your-horror-film

I found as well what the most common tricks directors use during films. The following website shows examples such as shooting through things, underexposure, etc:
 https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/cinematography-tips-for-horror-filmmakers/

This informed my project choices because every horror film has its own method. For instance the conjuring uses many jump scare and times of silent to scare the audience. This choices are important cause a trick that does not fit in the opening can create a false image for the rest of the film.

C. Some marketing choice I will choice is the lead actress of the film posting a picture for publicity.

For instance here is an example of what was done for a film that Brad Pitt started in. He posted on Instagram a picture of one of the scenes and captioned "Don't forget to watch". Another method that is in the picture is showing the trailer in big events such as the Superbowl which is watched by millions of people. Target audience is also very important. In addition putting advertisements in places that the target audience will watch is very important.

D. I learned that each genre of films have there own techniques that are very important to create a well done film. It is going to be important that my partner and I abide by the techniques in the genre that we choose. These techniques do not always have to be the common ones but important to stick to our genre.

Genre- Adventure

Genre conventions- A adventure movie is one long quest with a succession of different challenges, each one more frightening and seemingly impossible than the one before. Producers challenge in this type of genre is to ramp up the tension as the movie progresses. Usually from age 12 to adult.

The fonts on the movie boards are usually very grand. The font tries to put emphasis on the task at hand in every movie. Each movie board for adventure movies also puts the main actor or most famous one on the cover. For instance, the cover of mission impossible is Tom Cruise. This helps advertise the movie since Tom Cruise is very well known. Other techniques are camera techniques in the film. For instance, pan, zoom, and tracking camera movements are tricks commonly used in this type of genre. In the editing portion of the film cuts are used to show relationships. Lastly, adventurous movies usually have a specific mise-en scene, just like in star wars there is the futuristic feel due to many aspects.

This film embodies this genre in many ways. First based on this movie cover. The main character is clearly on the head of a panther and a futuristic city is behind is under him. This helps give the grand look of an adventurous movie. In addition, this movie also has many different types of fighting scenes that uses tracking shots to help keep the audience on edge. During this movie there is always one big problem that is accompanied with smaller problems to lead up to the climax. Many cuts are used to show the relationship between the protagonist and antagonist.

This movie also embodies this genre in many ways. To start off the movie cover has all the main characters. Each character is a different superhero. By putting all of the ones in the movies the advertising becomes great due to the fact that little kids are drawn toward superheros so the more put on the cover the more people are gonna wanna see it. This movie also uses a grand problem to create different adventurous that keeps the audience watching. As the movie transitions from setting to setting the key issue is Thanos getting all infinity stones.

An issue that I would like to represent through this genre is racism. Racism is the discrimination of groups of people because one feels superior to them. One example within the media of this issue is represented is the movie Schindler’s list. This movie is about World War 2. A man called Oskar Schindler living is living in Poland when Nazis’ take over. Schindler is concerned with his Jewish workforce after witnessing what the Nazis’ were doing to them. As a result, Schindler begins to protect Jews. This is a good representation of the issue because its a historic example of racism put in a movie.

Another representation of this video through media is the movie 12 years a slave. This movie is about a man named Solomon Northup that is a free black man living in New York. Solomon's life takes an extreme turn when he gets kidnapped and sold into slavery. Solomon now must go through many different types of cruelty until his 12th year as a slave is his last. This is also a great representation of racism due to the fact that slavery is colored people put to work because they are not considered a “person” at that time which is absurd.

I feel that these media examples have good representation characteristics. I think they are correct when it comes to representing racism in a certain period of time. I would retain the inequality portion of each movie. But the cruelty part I would not be able to retain because racism is in different forms not a days and not so much through cruelty. I would have to challenge the cruelty part because it's not a true representation of how it is occurring in the present.
